Looking for a good fantasy series to read...?

although i've only read the first book (college is delaying me, unfortunately), the wheel of time series reads a lot like lord of the rings....i've heard that it was written as tribute to lord of the rings. if you liked LOTR and eragon, i would imagine you would like wheel of time.
